Maggie & Cody’s St. Monica’s & Duke’s Wedding
Getting Ready in Santa Monica
Maggie and Cody got ready at a hotel in Santa Monica so they’d only be a short drive away for their Saint Monica’s church wedding ceremony and Duke’s Malibu wedding reception. When I first arrived, Maggie was already relaxed and having a good time, so I knew right away that the getting ready pictures were going to be great! And Maggie’s bridesmaids we’re a really fun group of girls, so the images of Maggie and her bridesmaids on the bed were a blast to capture!
Gorgeous Ceremony at St. Monica’s Catholic Church
I always look forward to photographing ceremonies at Saint Monica’s because it’s an unbelievably gorgeous venue, both inside and out! And this particular ceremony was unique to photograph because the priest had Maggie and Cody sit in front of the first row of pews instead of at the alter. This made it a bit challenging to photograph, but also gave the me opportunity to get creative!
Ridiculously Fun Reception at Duke’s Malibu
Duke’s has been a part of the pacific coast dining scene for many years. It’s an awesome place to grab some breakfast on an early Saturday morning, enjoy a delicious dinner as you watch the sun set over the amazing views of the pacific ocean, or unwind with some cocktails after work. The decor and atmosphere is influenced by and pays tribute to the pioneers of surfing in Malibu. It was named after Duke Kahanamoku, a native Hawaiian who was an Olympian, a Malibu surfing legend, and who also made appearances in many Hollywood movies from the 1920’s through the 1960’s.
Make no mistake about Maggie and Cody’s celebration at Duke’s. This wasn’t just a reception, it was a Party! There was no shortage of belly aching laughs and dancing with reckless abandon during this reception. I love it when even the mothers of the bride and groom aren’t afraid to get funky on the dance floor!
My Favorite Part of the Day
My favorite part of the day was photographing Maggie in Cody on the beach just outside of Duke’s. Maggie was a total trooper for traversing the rocky beach in order to get some amazing shots with the ocean in the background! I had a lot of fun lighting those shots and creating beautiful images that they’ll always have to look back on for the rest of their lives!
